*Respond in a 5 paragraph essay to only ONE of these three questions below.
1) In what ways does Frederick Douglass aim to influence white readers with his autobiography?
2) What role does literacy play in Frederick Douglass’ quest for freedom?
3) How and in what ways do the slaveowners described by Frederick Douglass use psychological forms of coercion to supplement the physical violence used to maintain slavery?
Respond to one of these three prompts with a five-paragraph essay that contains a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. Your essay should be typed, doubled spaced, in a font of size 12, and uploaded as a Microsoft Word, RTF, or PDF document. Your essay must draw from and cite both Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass and our textbook, Jill Lepore’s These Truths (and/or another assigned text). The first half (beginning through the end of chapter VIII) of Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass should be the main source that you rely upon to respond to the essay prompt that you choose. You should use Lepore’s These Truths and/or another assigned text to supplement the material you draw on from Douglass’ autobiography and to provide historical context. Your essay must provide citations for any material that you quote or paraphrase. Your citations should be made using the author-page MLA format.
This is not a research paper. That means that you don’t need to and shouldn’t use any sources other than the Douglass’ autobiography and the textbook (and/or another assigned text).
It includes the autobiography that should be referenced.
